Biking around Budweis and Cesky Krumlov

Around the carp lakes and old cities in south Bohemia

This is a cycle tour through one of the most beautiful area’s in the Czech Republic. It is a historically rich area, even in the small villages there are large farms whose buildings are a couple of hundred of years old such as in the Unesco protected farmers village of Holasovice. The tour starts in Budweis, known for its beautiful large market square and for the locally brewed Budweiser beer. You have the opportunity to cycle through the lush Bohemian forests towards the Unesco world heritage city of Cesky Krumlov with the second large castle of the Czech Republic and spend the whole afternoon sightseeing there. Furthermore you will visit historic sites such as the 16th century artificial lake of Rozmberk, the largest lake in the whole area that is used today to store excess water, such as during the 2002 and 2013 floodings.

On your route you will cycle most of the time on small rural roads, on which the occasional car or tractors drives. Or you will cycle on designated bicycle paths on which you can find only other cyclists.
