Hiking the dark woods in the Bohemian Forest

Hiking on the edge of the Bohemian Forest

The national park Sumava is better known as the Bohemian Forest. Together with the Bayrischer Wald on the German side, this is one of the largest natural reserves in Europe. The region is sparsely populated because everyone was forced to move out during the cold war due to the proximity to a capitalist country. From Vyssi Brod, the most southern part of the natural reserve, you will hike towards sites of national heritage. You´ll end the hike in the Unesco world heritage town of Cesky Krumlov, famous for its renowned Schwarzenberg castle. You will spend three nights here in total. The hike takes you to the largest mountain of the whole region from which you will have a magnificent view over the whole valley. Then you will walk along a wildly flowing river towards the to the next town in which you will spend the night. On your way you will come across old ruins of fortresses on your way, and small picturesque villages. The routes are moderately hilly. = The national park Sumava is better known as the Bohemian Forest. Close to Vyssi Brod there are sections of primeval forest –forest that has never been cut down- through which you will hike towards Rozmberk. In Rozmberk a pearl white castle is located romantically on a hill along the Moldau river. From Vyssi Brod you will hike towards sites of national heritage.
