Biking along the ponds of the Golden Canal

Unique historical carp lakes connected by the Golden Canal

Historic villages and towns containing old buildings, old fortresses, monasteries, castles, lush forests and rolling hills are the characteristics of the Southern-Bohemian landscape. It is a landscape to fall in love with. Southern-Bohemia is for European standards an unique area with a lot of the local nature and culture still being intact, and resembling the country as it looked like 150 years ago. The old border area, which was forbidden for everyone until 1989, is now teeming with wildlife due to the absence of humans. You will be surprised by how untouched the whole landscape looks. Highlights are the Hluboka Chateau because its build in the same style as the Windsor castle, the Unesco world heritage medieval town of Cesky Krumlov, and the biggest city: Budweis. This is where the original Budweiser beer is brewed. Southern-Bohemia is a true cyclist’s paradise, with many quiet rural roads which you will discover on this tour, and stops where you can still get original Bohemian food. = Cozy historic villages and mighty old towns, fortresses, monasteries, castles, lush forests and rolling hills are the characteristic to the Southern-Bohemian landscape. Zlatá stoka (English: Golden Canal) is a 45 km long artificial watercourse in the Czech Republic. It connects all the large fishponds in the Trebon Basin. Until the 17th century it bore the simple name "irrigation ditch" (Příkop). Because of its importance for the fishpond system, it was given the name Golden Canal during the Schwarzenberg period.

The tour is partly flat, partly hilly. You will cycle 40 to 60 km (25 / 38 miles) a day.
